How to insert empty rows into a transaction

Overview

When importing transactions into QuickBooks using Zed Axis you may need to include empty rows or spaces in the line detail of the transaction like invoices, sales receipts, estimates or purchase orders.  This is to make the presentation of the transaction better or to group lines together.   Whilst it is not possible to import a row with no line item on it as it required to complete the QiuckBooks import validation there are several possible solutions we suggest:

Suggested Solutions

Insert a carriage return in the Line Description field

If you are importing a file that you can open in Excel then it is possible to include carriage returns in the Line Description field that will achieve the affect of spacing the lines out.  In the Excel field to insert a carriage return field use the key combination of
ALT + ENTER

Use a Subtotal Item

QuickBooks has special Subtotal type items that you can use to total all the items above it on a form, by importing a Subtotal item it adds a natural break in the lines on form, note you should leave the LineAmount field empty as QuickBooks will calculate that.

Use a dummy item

You use a dummy item that will insert a row without a description (eg call it desc) but note this wil automatically display a LineAmount of 0.00
